Having girls that ADORE their natural hair! Sisterlocks has brought so much freedom to me and my family. My girls are involved in many activities (ice skating, swimming, dance, Girl Scouts etc) and their hair is never a factor. One of the many beauties is that my husband is able to style their hair with no fuss or hassle. Give them an accessories and they can hook it up too!
Along the way I’ve also learned that kids don’t have the same hang-ups about hair as adults. Because their hair is so easy to style, I’m always trying to do something with it… and they just want to be left alone. Free to enjoy the simple things that kids love to do. And on most days, that’s just what we do. Braidouts are great because it only takes about 6 cornrows going back to give them crinkles that last for the entire week.
In most cases your fear of Sisterlocks is probably yours, and not your kids. I introduced the idea of Sisterlocks to my daughter by showing her pictures of them. Before I could get to the 2nd photo she was like “yes, I want them, I want them.” I was like wow, no convincing her. But again, she didn’t have the same hang-ups about hair as I did and my fear/hesitation was mine and not hers. I own that now, and have no fear or regrets about our Sisterlocks.
